It's A Shag-adelic Party…Yeah Baby! Yeah!

Have you ever wanted to throw a groovy 60’s theme party?  Hosting a party like this is both fun and exciting and can be done on either a big or little budget, depending on the number of people you invite to your party.

Send your guests an invitation printed up on Tie Dye paper and encourage them to come to the party wearing groovy duds that will be Far Out!  The style of the 1960’s was all about free flowing dresses, long stick straight hair with a crown of daisy’s around your head, small round sunglasses for the ladies and big Afro-tastic hair (complete with hair picks stuck into it!), leather vests with fringe on it and funky printed polyester pants for the men.  You can purchase a retro 1960’s wig for men and women in a variety of styles and colors at a costume store.  Talk about a fashion statement!  Your local thrift store is bound to have plenty of retro type items, so look carefully and you’re sure to find a bunch of treasures to wear to your 60’s theme party!

Planning the decorations for your house for a 60’s theme party can be a lot of fun without costing an arm and a leg.  You can purchase inexpensive sheer scarves at a local store and drape them over your lamps.  If you can find some, plug in some groovy lava lamps to add a psychedelic feel to any room.  You can purchase beads at your local costume store and you can string them through all of your doorways to really create a retro look from the 1960’s.

When deciding what to serve your guests to eat for your 60’s theme party, look back into some old cookbooks from the 1960’s for inspiration.  You could serve tasty 1960’s classic dishes like ambrosia salad, mini meat loafs and apple brown Betty for a treat.  To make your dinner table really 1960’s retro, add some foil pan TV dinners…..those meals were a blast from the past!

Have some musical classics playing in the background as your guests arrive and throughout the evening of the party.  Play some groovy tunes from the Mama’s and the Papa’s, Crosby Stills and Nash, The Beatles and the Drifters.  More likely than not, people will be familiar with these songs even though they did not grow up in the era.  A fun activity would be to have a karaoke machine hooked up loaded with all of your favorite retro hits to ensure that your 60’s theme party keeps going all night long.  It will be Out of Sight!
