A 1950's Sock Hop That You'll Twist And Shout About!

A 50’ theme party is terrific for all ages, all occasions.  Inviting your guests to a retro Sock Hop will get all ages in the spirit for a great party and a terrific night of music, dancing and fun!

You can easily and inexpensively make your invitations to send to your guests.  Try printing out a picture of a juke box and creating a card that way.  The songs that are inside of the juke box can be the details about your party.  You could also cut a circle shape out of firm tag board and turn it into an LB record.  Use a silver gel pen to write the 50’s theme party information.  Encourage your guests to dress accordingly with poodle skirts, saddle shoes, T-Bird jackets and Pink Lady coats.  By using their imagination, your guests can create a fun 50’s costume on little or no budget.  It will be exciting to see what everyone comes up with!

The music at your 50’s theme party is the key to keeping everyone entertained.  Ask an older relative, someone who grew up in the 1950’s what songs were popular during that time era and which artists sang these songs.  Undoubtedly, you’ll hear the names Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley and Brenda Lee, among many others.  Look in your local phone book to see if there is a company that will rent Juke boxes for parties.  If you can find one, your guests are guaranteed to have a night full of lively original rock and roll!  A fun activity to do would be to have a dance party.  Ask an older friend or neighbor if they could teach you and your guests some dances from the 1950’s.  Learning how to do the Twist, the Mashed Potato and the Pony will ensure hours of laughter and fun!

Base your 50’s theme party catering menu around the time era.  Serve yor guests diner foods like greasy chili cheese fries, hot dogs, burgers and creamy smooth milkshakes.  Enlist your husband to wear a typical 50’s diner waiter’s outfit, complete with short sleeved white shirt, black bow tie and red and white hat and apron.  The kids will get a kick out this party and will not soon be forgotten.
